SF SourceFunding
Methodology

How SourceFunding uses public lender data.

The first version is intentionally narrow: current SBA 7(a) activity plus loan-level SBA 7(a) franchise history.

Current activity

Current SBA lender rankings are generated from SBA's "7(a) & 504 Activity Reports: Current Month" workbook. The current 7(a) report is marked as of 05/31/2026.

Loan-level history

Franchise brand pages use SBA 7(a) FOIA loan-level data. The file includes franchise name/code, bank name, approval amounts, loan status, charge-off amount, dates, and geography.

Outcome caveat: Recent loans are not seasoned. A 2024 loan should not be judged like a 2016 loan. SourceFunding uses current activity to measure lender appetite and treats charge-off or default-style signals as historical context that needs cohort analysis before strong claims.

What we do not publish in v1

  • Borrower-level names or addresses from public FOIA rows.
  • Approval odds, guaranteed rates, or underwriting decisions.
  • Sponsored lender ordering inside organic activity tables.
  • Consumer-purpose lending recommendations.
